A 19-year-old who was busted growing his own marijuana plant and a Stanthorpe man who told the court his meth possession was due to the grief of losing his grandfather were just two of the people sentenced in the Stanthorpe Magistrates Court for drug offences.

A 19-year-old has fronted court for the first time after cops discovered a knee-high marijuana plant in his backyard and ecstasy in his bedroom.

Police prosecutor Ken Wiggan told the Stanthorpe Magistrates Court Jake Allan Stewart was busted with the plant in his backyard on January 8.

Sergeant Wiggan said the Glen Aplin man told police he had grown it from a seed and it was for his personal use.

Two weeks later on January 22, police busted the 19-year-old with an MDMA testing kit and a small amount of MDMA (ecstasy) in his bedroom.

Stewart pleaded guilty to one count each of producing and possessing dangerous drugs.

He was fined $650 and no convictions were recorded.

A Stanthorpe man busted with a couple of ounces of marijuana told police he fell into a bad drug habit following the birth of his child.

Sergeant Wiggan said police found 78g of marijuana, water pipes, a grinder and a number of different-sized clip seal bags at Cory John Greenaway’s home at 11am on June 18.

Defence lawyer Hamish Chapman said his 29-year-old client conceded he probably shouldn’t have done it, but fell back into his drug habit due to life stressors, including the birth of his child.

The Stanthorpe father pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing drugs and drug utensils.

He was fined $550.

A Stanthorpe father has claimed he was using meth to deal with the loss of his grandfather.

Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa said Michael Scott Bartlett was busted by Stanthorpe police on High Street with drugs and utensils in his car.

Police found a clipseal bag with 0.2g meth and a pipe during the 1am search on June 29.

Defence lawyer Clare Hine said her 25-year-old client has history of depression and anxiety.

“My client tells me he has some issues with stress and grief from losing his grandfather quite recently,” she said.

Magistrate Julian Noud told the Stanthorpe man how dangerous drugs can distort a person’s views and affect judgment.

The Stanthorpe man pleaded guilty to one count of possessing drugs and one count of possessing drug utensils.

He was fined $550 and no conviction was recorded.

A Stanthorpe father with a history of drug offending was busted by cops with a bag of meth during a late-night car search.

Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa said Jesse Robert Adams was stopped on Texas Road, Greenlands on June 10.

Sergeant de Lissa said police found in the glove box of the car, two clipseal bags with 1.5g of meth, a glass pipe and straw.

“He has a page-and-a-half of related history and a great deal of it is related to drugs,” he said.

Ms Hine said her 28-year-old client had hopes of rehabilitating and fully co-operated with police.

Adams pleaded guilty to one count each of possessing drugs and drug utensils.

He was fined $850.
