A Southern Downs chippy lost more than a bet or two at the races after he was busted with a bag of drugs.
Danniel Lewis Roulston pleaded guilty in Warwick Magistrates Court on Monday, November 6 to one count of possessing dangerous drugs.
The court was told the 28-year-old carpenter was busted by security at a Stanthorpe race day on October 21 after they were alerted that Roulston and another man had gone into a bathroom stall together.
Security informed police, and while investigating the bathroom the court was told officers overheard chatting and a “large snorting sound”.
Roulston’s co-offender told police at the scene he had driven to Brisbane and bought the baggie of cocaine for $350, intending to share it with Roulston at the Stanthorpe races.
Defence lawyer Bonnie O’Brien said after Roulston was busted, he was “fully co-operative”.
The court was told Roulston who has worked across Australia and overseas, and that he was also a volunteer SES worker.
It was also noted that Roulston had no criminal history and pleaded guilty at the earliest possible instance.
Magistrate Virginia Sturgess noted while the drug was dangerous and possessing it was a criminal offence, it was solely for personal use.
“There are many good reasons why you should avoid drug misuse, as it might impact your ability to travel overseas,” she said.
Roulston was fined $350 with no conviction recorded.
