Stanthorpe Library and Art Gallery redevelopment will soon reopen to the public

A long-awaited redevelopment project in Stanthorpe will soon open its doors to the public, as council sets an opening date. Update here.

Fears were grave for the future of a Stanthorpe redevelopment project when the construction company in charge collapsed, however an opening date can now be revealed.

The project was previously valued at $6.1m by former contractors, national firm St Hilliers, who entered into administration in February.

Southern Downs Regional Council were quick to reappoint a new contractor, with Australian company ICM Construction finishing off the project.

The gallery and library holds more than $4m worth of content, including approximately $3m of artworks, and $1m in books.

A council spokesman announced on Wednesday that building works on the project had reached the pointy end.

“Following completion of successful certification, the building will be handed back to council to commence internal Fixtures, Fitting and Equipment (FFE) activities,” the spokesman said.

“FFE’s are scheduled to commence from June 10 2024 and will include the installation of storage, furniture, shelving installation, IT and cleaning.

“Following the completion of these processes and once the building has had time to adjust to the correct temperature and humidity levels for the art collection, the library and art gallery teams will commence the move back into the building.”

Council anticipates it will welcome community members back to the library and art gallery from mid to late July.
