A popular park in Wondai has left visitors angry and disgusted after they made a “rank” discovery earlier this week.

Coronation Park, located in the centre of town and across the road of Peries IGA Wondai, is a go-to destination for many families and travellers and hosts the monthly Wondai Country Markets.

However, the park has come under fire this week after a local woman took to social media to share her “sick” discovery.

Young mum and Wondai resident La-Keya Mooney took her 10-month-old daughter to Coronation Park for a barbecue with friends on Monday, March 17, but the fun abruptly stopped when they came across a collection of used condoms.

“Everything was great,” she posted on social media.

“My mate was running around with her two lil baby grandsons.

“She then had to stop her (one) year old grandson from putting used rubbers in his mouth.”

Ms Mooney and her friends found six used condoms in the park, some knotted up and others still appearing to be rolled, with the outer wrapping seen strewn about.

They picked them up and threw them in the bin, to stop the children from accidentally coming into contact with them.

She said sadly this was a regular occurrence in Wondai and she struggled to understand how people could do something so revolting.

“How could someone leave such a revolting thing in a park that’s frequently used by not only mothers and fathers with kids but also families that use the barbecues while the kids have fun within view?” she said.

“Even the school kids use the little area before and after school, as there are to bus stops both sides of the park.”

Commenters on social media shared their outrage at the “nasty” behaviour.

“What has become of the beautiful town I grew up in? Disgusting!!!” one person wrote.

“That’s about as grubby as you can get,” another person wrote.

“That’s actually rank,” wrote another.

Ms Mooney said she has reported the issue to the council before and the incident has made her reconsider taking her young children back to the park.

“My family and I are no longer taking our kids there until we know that this isn’t going to happen again.”
