Councillor Ros Heit has been appointed as the South Burnett Regional Council’s representative on the Tarong West Wind Farm Community Consultative Committee.
A committee has been established to share information with relevant stakeholders during the development and construction phases of the wind farm project.
The project was proposed by RES, a global renewable energy developer that first established operations in Australia in 2004, working in collaboration with Stanwell Corporation.
The wind farm was approved by the Queensland government in 2024 and supported by $776.1m from the Queensland Government’s Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Jobs Fund.
The site is in Ironpot, 30km west of Kingaroy and 8km northwest of Kumbia, and is around 19,000ha of mostly cleared farmland used for grazing.
According to the Tarong West Wind Farm website, the project will have “minimal impact to farming” as it uses less than two per cent of the total land area.
Construction of the Tarong West Wind Farm is expected to begin in the second half of 2025, with the project due to be completed early in 2027.
