Two children arrested over violence robberies in Kingaroy and Murgon

Two women have been attacked and injured in a series of violent robberies allegedly carried out by children in the Burnett.

Police have arrested and charged a 12-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl after a series of robberies in Kingaroy and Murgon, with both teens allegedly assaulting their victims.

A police statement released on Thursday said the boy was arrested and charged over multiple break-ins and the assault of a woman during a robbery in Murgon in early December.

He allegedly broke into two homes in Murgon at about 8.30pm on Sunday, December 3, before fleeing with a number of personal items belonging to the homeowners.

The next night, on Monday, December 4, about 11.30pm, he allegedly broke into a home in South Murgon, threatening a woman and hitting her multiple times.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries during the alleged assault.

A few hours later, just after 1am, the boy allegedly broke into a business on Lamb Street and stole a number of items before fleeing once again.

On Tuesday, December 5, police executed a search warrant at an address and arrested the 12-year-old.

He was charged with multiple offences including enter dwelling with intent, enter dwelling and commit, attempted robbery and stealing.

The case was mentioned in Murgon Children’s Court on Wednesday, December 6, with police opposing bail.

In a separate incident, on Monday, December 7, a 17-year-old girl entered a business on Avoca Street in Kingaroy about 8.20am and allegedly took a number of items before walking out without paying.

When approached by a female staff member, the girl allegedly refused to put the items back and hit the woman with wet floor sign she had picked up nearby before fleeing.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.

The girl has been charged with one count of robbery with violence.

Her case was mentioned in Kingaroy Children’s Court on Tuesday, December 5 with police opposing bail.

Investigations into all incidents are ongoing.
