Youth criminals need more than ‘a nice slap on the wrist’

A group of juveniles had more than a craving for candy when they asked a woman to share her sweets with them, instead using the opportunity to allegedly shove her to the ground and steal her car.

Senior Sergeant Brett Everest said a group of Cherbourg juveniles approached the 35-year-old woman outside a church at about 5pm on Thursday, June 30, and asked her for some candy.

As she reached out to hand them some sweets, one of the youngsters allegedly pushed her over and grabbed her handbag.

Police will allege they took the car keys out of the bag, jumped into the woman’s vehicle and drove away.

Murgon CIB are currently investigating the carjacking incident. Three offenders have been arrested so far.
