What to do if you think a child is being abused

The last of three South Burnett woman charged with sexually abusing a 14-year-old boy has finally been committed to stand trial, almost a year after she was first charged.

The 21-year-old is one of three women alleged to have targeted the boy and currently faces one charge each of carnal knowledge, using a carriage service to procure persons under 16, and indecent treatment of a child.

Police will allege that between March and May last year, the three women repeatedly engaged with the boy via phone before sexually abusing him in person.

The case against the 21-year-old in particular has faced multiple hurdles, including several no-shows by the woman that resulted in her pleading guilty to failing to appear on two previous occasions.

Appearing in Murgon Magistrates Court on Tuesday, she was committed to stand trial in the Kingaroy District Court at a later date.

Her two co-accused, who cannot yet be named to protect the identity of the child, were also charged in August last year at the end of the Murgon Child Protection Investigation Unit’s Operation Puma.

Their matters have since been committed to the Kingaroy District Court.
