Police warn Wondai residents to be ‘vigilant’ as woman’s bag snatched, another threatened by car thief

Police are urging a South Burnett community to be vigilant after two women were allegedly targeted by thieves in shocking incidents, including a night-time robbery near a busy store.

Police are urging the Wondai community to be vigilant after two women were allegedly targeted by thieves, with one alleged victim approached by two men under the cover of darkness and blatantly robbed outside a grocery store.

The woman was outside the Mackenzie Street store when two men walked up to her at about 6.30pm on July 9.

One man allegedly grabbed the woman’s handbag and both ran off down the street.

A 21-year-old Victoria Point man has since been charged with the unlawful use of motor vehicle, stealing, burglary and committing an indictable offence, entering premises with intent to commit indictable offence, five counts of fraud, and trespass.

He is due to appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on August 2.

Just days earlier, on July 4, another woman spotted a man allegedly attempting to break into her car, which was parked at the intersection of Mackenzie and Bramston Streets.

Police will allege the man threatened her when she attempted to confront him, however left soon after in another vehicle without any of the woman’s property.

A 22-year-old Wondai man has been charged with two unlawful of a motor vehicle, attempted robbery, enter premises and commit indictable offence and two counts of stealing.

He is due to appear in Murgon Magistrates Court on September 13.
