Police are on the hunt for potential youth offenders after Nanango’s Pioneer Park was targeted twice last week, resulting in a BBQ and construction site being trashed.

NSW reveals 10 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases

Upgrades to Nanango’s Pioneer Park were sabotaged twice last week after unknown offenders set fire to plastic in an unfinished BBQ and damaged property belonging to a local construction company hired to refurbish the bathrooms.

According to Nanango officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Brett Smith, unknown persons, believed to be youth offenders, attended Pioneer Park between 5pm and 6pm on June 15.

During this time, they placed plastic contraction bunting into an unfinished BBQ and set it alight, causing significant damage to council property.

Between June 10 and June 14, unknown offenders, also believed to be youths, have entered a construction site established by a local business hired to refurbish the park’s toilet block.

Senior Sergeant Smith said the offenders cut the barrier fencing surrounding the site, cut up the businesses signage, and slashed the tyres of a trailer.

Investigations are continuing into both incidents.
