Police are hunting a group of offenders who broke into a “elderly” man’s Murgon home and bashed him so badly about the head he was knocked out.

In a statement released Tuesday, police said the group broke into the man’s house on Garrick St in Murgon about 7.15pm on Friday, March 22.

After entering the property, the group assaulted a man “causing him to fall unconscious,” police said.

Police allege after the assault the group “conducted an untidy search” of the residence before fleeing shortly after.

A Queensland Ambulance Spokeswoman said the man was described as “elderly” and he was taken to Kingaroy Hospital with head injuries.

Garrick St is located next to the Murgon Showground and PCYC South Burnett and mostly consists of residential housing.

Police said it is unknown how many were in the group that broke into the property.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information are urged to contact police.
