A Kingaroy woman who threatened to kill her neighbour’s three-year-old child turned her rage to police, attempting to bite and punch cops before grabbing an officer by the genitals and squeezing.

Police prosecutor Pepe Gangemi told Kingaroy Magistrates Court Kylie Ann Shapland initially targeted her neighbours with a disturbing threat.

Sergeant Gangemi said Shapland went to her neighbours’ property on the night of July 24, kicking a gate and screaming threats she would “come over and kill their three-year-old-son”.

Police attended the property and took the 33-year-old back to the Kingaroy watch-house, where she began headbutting and kicking the walls of her cell.

“Police were trying to take her to the padded cell but she kept putting her hands in the door frame so police couldn’t shut the door,” he said.

As police attempted to move Shapland to the padded cell, she swung a punch at an officer and missed before dropping to the floor, forcing the officers to drag her across the floorboards.

One officer was left with a back sprain as a result.

Sergeant Gangemi said while they were attempting to restrain Shapland on the floor, she tried to bite one of the officers.

In the padded cell she charged at an officer and struck him on the forearm with her handcuffs, before grabbing the officer standing in the doorway of the padded cell by the genitals and squeezing.

The prosecutor said Shapland was highly intoxicated at the time, recording a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.177.

Defence lawyer Mark Werner said his client became infuriated when she found her neighbours’ cat trying to get into her mother’s birdcages.

“She took the cat back, knocked on the gate and has indicated that she was told by the neighbour to go away otherwise the dog would attack her,” he said.

Mr Werner said Shapland also suffered from anxiety and didn’t react well to being “manhandled” by police.

Shapland pleaded guilty to committing a public nuisance offence, assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm, common assault, wilful damage, and two counts of obstructing police.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair placed her on probation for 18 months.
