Police are hunting for a group of thieves that stole two cars, and bungled their attempt to steal a third in Kingaroy.

Kingaroy Police officer-in-charge David Tierney said the group targeted an Oasis St address just after midnight on Friday.

“The offenders have entered the dwelling through a door left open and taken three sets of car keys from the kitchen,” Senior Sergeant Tierney said.

“The offenders have then stolen two vehicles from the garage. The residents were woken when the third vehicle stalled and hit a workbench.”

The group fled from the stalled vehicle, with police later finding the stolen Mazda sedan abandoned on Haly St shortly afterwards.

A stolen Toyota sedan was found more than two hours later in an “undrivable state” at Crawford.

Police are also investigating the break-in at a church on the same night.

Sgt Tierney said it’s not known how offenders have gained entry to the Haly St church, but said they searched through cupboards in the building.

It is unknown if any property was taken.

Investigations into both incidents are continuing.
