Police are hunting for multiple suspects believed to be responsible for a massive blaze that tore through a South Burnett home earlier this month, with investigations into the house fire still ongoing.
Detectives have confirmed the fire that destroyed a Broadway St home in Cherbourg last week was started as a “small grass fire” that was lit by “a number of suspects”.
Several fire crews were called the Broadway St blaze in the early hours of last Tuesday morning, with the fire fully engulfing the property by 2.30am.
The fire was brought under control by about 4.30am, but the timber house had already been destroyed by the flames.
It is understood no one was living in the building at the time, with police immediately beginning inquiries into the blaze.
Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council posted a warning to nearby residents on Facebook on the day of the house fire, warning the community to steer clear of the charred building.
The post said an asbestos test would be conducted before the house was demolished as soon as possible.
The demolition has not yet been completed.
