Kingaroy house fire: Community rallies for family after tragic blaze

The South Burnett community is rallying behind a family who lost all their belongings in a tragic house fire, including Christmas presents and items for their unborn baby.

2021: a year in review

The community is rallying around a Kingaroy family who tragically lost everything in a raging house fire just days before Christmas.

Anthea Waldron and her family have been left without a home, their belongings and items for their unborn baby, after fire gutted their River Rd property.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to the serious blaze just before 2pm Tuesday.

Ambulance officers also attended and assessed four people, but fortunately they did not require treatment.

A QFES spokesman confirmed crews were initially told the roof of the single-story building was on fire, and found it “well-involved”.

Now the South Burnett community is doing what it does best, rallying around Ms Waldron, who is 7 months pregnant, and her two young sons to try give them some semblance of a normal Christmas.

Sheree Langan started a GoFundMe to assist the family, saying the fire “took everything they own, clothes, furniture, everything for the arrival of their new baby and all of their Christmas presents.”

“They need help to replace what they have lost and to prepare themselves for the arrival of the baby,” Ms Langan said.

“A tragedy like this is not something anybody should ever have to go through, especially not with children and at Christmas time.”

In just one day, the fundraiser has already raised more than $2800 towards its $10,000 goal.

Donations of clothing, furniture and gifts have also been flowing, with Ms Waldron’s mother Trina Lucas thanking the community for their kindness.

“What an amazing community we all live in. I have been inundated. My daughter Anthea and her partner Connor are so overwhelmed. And so am I,” she said in a Facebook post.

Donations to the GoFundMe can be made here.
