Four intersections on the D‘Aguilar Highway in Kingaroy will receive road safety upgrades with construction to begin in March.

The Transport and Main Roads project would “improve road safety and transport efficiency for locals and through traffic,” a press release said.

The highway will be widened at the Harris Rd, Evelyn Street and Prince Street intersections and a four-way roundabout will be introduced at the intersection of Knight, Walter and Somerset street.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said widening the highway would help separate turning traffic and improve safety and traffic flow.

“The new roundabout at the D‘Aguilar Highway intersection with Knight, Walter and Somerset streets has also been designed to better accommodate heavy vehicles,” Mr Bailey said.

“In the past, this intersection has been challenging for trucks to use, resulting in heavy vehicles detouring through residential areas via Kingaroy Street.”

The construction works are expected to cause speed restrictions, lane closures and temporary detours and all current information on changed road conditions can be found on QLDTraffic.

Work will start in March and all four intersections are expected to be completed in October 2023.

“Motorists should plan for minor traffic delays and are urged to drive to the changed conditions and obey all signage and traffic controller‘s directions,” Mr Bailey said.

“We look forward to delivering these vital safety improvements for the community and thank them for their patience throughout the works.”

“Road safety is a top priority for the Palaszczuk Government, that’s why the current budget delivers more than $1.5 billion towards targeted road safety initiatives.”

Nanango Mp Deb Frecklington said it was “about time” for the “dangerous” intersection at Knight and Somerset streets to be acknowledged by the state government.

“This announcement is long overdue, given the large number of complaints that have been made about this intersection over many years,” she said.

“I have been advocating for improvements to this intersection for a long time and I know the community will be relieved to hear that something is finally going to be done to make this busy intersection safer.”
