Two people charged with the alleged manslaughter of six-year-old Riley Wells have had their matters adjourned as police continue to compile their briefs of evidence.

Jessie Jade Dennis, 34, and Summer-Ann Michelle Harrison, 19, were charged in early January in connection with the death of Riley Wells after the car he was in was hit by a prime mover on Carnarvon Highway 20km north of Injune.

Police allege that Mr Dennis was driving a white Toyota LandCruiser, with Ms Harrison and Riley passengers in the vehicle, when about 2.10am on January 6, 2022, the vehicle left the road and rolled before coming to rest in the northbound lane.

Following the crash it is alleged the two adults were able to free themselves, however the boy was not removed from the vehicle and was still in the LandCruiser when it was struck by a passing prime mover. Riley died at the scene.

Both co-accused had their respective legal teams represent them on their behalf in Roma Magistrates Court when their matters were mentioned separately on Tuesday June 6, 2023.

Appearing on behalf of Mr Dennis was defence lawyer Sarah Campbell from Skuse Graham Lawyers and appearing on behalf of Ms Harrison was defence lawyer Stefan Tucakovic from Beavon Lawyers.

Police prosecutor Mathew Donnelly told the court more time was needed to compile the briefs of evidence as they were still waiting for telephone records.

Mr Donnelly said the process of acquiring full telephone call transcripts can be up to ten weeks.

Acting magistrate Michael Bice adjourned the matters for three months to give time for prosecution to receive the telephone transcript.

Mr Dennis and Ms Harrison remain on bail while in the community and will have their matters heard again in Roma Magistrates Court on September 12, 2023.
