Jeffrey Michael Wells pleads guilty in Roma Magistrates Court to public nuisance and possessing cannabis and drug utensils

A heated neighbourly dispute over a man’s underage daughter ended up in a police drug bust and a court date. Here’s all the details.

A shirtless man who thought approaching police to complain about his neighbour would end up in his favour was sorely mistaken after he was charged with public nuisance and drug-related offences.

Jeffrey Michael Wells, 35, pleaded guilty in Roma Magistrates Court to public nuisance and possessing cannabis and drug utensils.

Police prosecutions said on March 5 Wells approached police shirtless while holding a can of beer to complain about his neighbour.

Police learnt that the defendant had got into a dispute with his neighbour after Wells commented that he would take his neighbour’s daughter out for a drink once she turned 18-years-old, the court was told.

As police were questioning the neighbour, Wells came into the front yard and began yelling abuse at police calling them ‘c–ksuckers’.

Police warned him multiple times to leave, however he refused and was charged with public nuisance.

Further, on March 10 police executed a search warrant on Wells’ address where they uncovered cannabis and six water pipes associated with using illegal drugs.

Police seized the items and sent them away to be destroyed.

Defence lawyer Trevor May said his client was speaking with a doctor to get him into the medicinal marijuana program, which will stop him from coming back before the courts.

“He knows he’s not meant to, but he suffers from headaches,” Mr May said.

Magistrate Shane Elliott handed Wells a 12 month probation order and convictions were recorded.
