An Injune woman with a frightening traffic history has faced court again and been slapped with a suspended sentence.
Ashleigh Lorraine Alexander pleaded guilty to drunk driving while unlicensed in Roma Magistrates Court on January 9, where it was revealed that she was busted on September 29 after driving around the streets yelling abuse out the window, before crashing into a parked car.
Police prosecutor Ellysha Geddes told the court that Alexander was found sitting in the gutter of Second Ave, Injune after she crashed her black Holden commodore into a parked car. Alexander was taken to hospital where she returned a breath alcohol concentration reading of 0.124. At the time of the incident, Alexander was not a holder of any kind of licence.
Ms Geddes told the court that before she crashed, Alexander had “raced around the streets yelling abuse out the window”.
Alexander has previously been convicted of drink and unlicensed driving offences, including an instance when she almost hit two small children with a quad bike in 2021.
Given Alexander’s history, acting magistrate Cooke asked Alexander whether she believed she had a problem with alcohol.
Alexander, who did not have legal representation, asserted that she did not.
“That’s not what your history is saying,” Mr Cooke said.
“It seems to be when you drink, you get drunk and you get into trouble … that’s pretty close to the definition of a problem with alcohol.”
Mr Cooke sentenced Alexander to two months in jail, suspended for 12 months, but warned that if she committed any further driving or alcohol related offences, she would be facing a jail term in actual custody.
