Police are continuing investigations into a Roma man who allegedly defrauded his employer of more than $80,000.

The charges against Duane Ross Johnson were mentioned in Roma Magistrates Court on January 9.

The court was told that investigations were still underway, due to the extensive and complex nature of the matter.

Mr Johnson did not appear in court but was legally represented by Chelsea Saldumbide, who said that as investigations continue, the amount Mr Johnson allegedly defrauded was likely to increase.

Mr Johnson was charged in November with allegedly defrauding his employer of more than $80,000 between February 2020 and March 2022.

The investigation commenced in July 2022, after Mr Johnson’s former employer filed a complaint.

On November 28, 2023, detectives executed multiple search warrants at addresses in Roma and seized allegedly fraudulently obtained property.

Mr Johnson has not yet been called on to enter a plea to the one charge of fraud.

The matter is set to be mentioned again in the Roma Magistrates Court on April 3, 2024.
