A Roma father of two has been sentenced after a brawl involving more than 10 people in the car park of the local McDonald’s last year.
Brandon John Lang, 29, pleaded guilty to charges of assault in public while intoxicated and public nuisance in the Roma magistrate court on Tuesday.
A representative for Lang, solicitor Leslee Reed, told the court that on that evening of September 9, Lang had arrived to the McDonald’s to find his sister being harassed by a man in the parking lot.
The court heard that Lang observed the pair arguing and heard the man calling his sister names.
Police prosecutor Ellysha Geddes submitted Lang approached the man in the parking lot, asking him to fight, and eventually grabbing him by the shirt and moving him back and forth. Lang then pushed the man backwards into a metal pole.
Ms Geddes said Lang then walked towards the McDonald’s calling to another person to fight, but his friends pulled him away into the parking lot. While Lang was in the parking lot with his friends, another man approached and a brawl with up to 11 people broke out, before police arrived at the scene.
Lang told police before the incident he had consumed a carton of alcohol before going to the pub to continue to drink.
Acting magistrate Cooke sentenced Lang to 200 hours community service, with no conviction recorded.
