David Littleproud and Nationals retain House of Representative seats

Leader of the Nationals MP David Littleproud has retained his seat in Maranoa and vowed to hold the ALP to account following their landslide victory during the Federal election.

Leader of the Nationals David Littleproud has secured his seat in the Maranoa electorate for a fourth term but has failed to address questions whether he will stay in his party’s top job.

The LNP faced a historic defeat at the hands of Labor with former Prime Minister Peter Dutton being turfed as leader of the country and from his local seat of Dickson.

Despite this the Nationals retained all of their House of Representatives seats during Saturday’s election with Maranoa called less than two hours into counting, making it one of the first LNP confirmed seats in the country.

This will be Mr Littleproud fourth run in Maranoa previously being elected to the House of Representatives for Maranoa, in 2016 and re-elected 2019 and 2022.

Despite a number of swings to Labor in historically safe seats Mr Littleproud maintained his position in Maranoa securing 53.2 per cent of the votes, while Labor received 16.3 and One Nation secured 12.1.

He did however receive 3.1 per cent less votes than during his 2022 victory.

Mr Littleproud thanked the region for their continued support and vowed to continue to represent them in Canberra.

“I am truly humbled to have been elected to represent the people of Maranoa once again, and I’m committed to ensuring we get our fair share,” he said.

“I’d like to thank the people of Maranoa for entrusting me to be their federal member, and I’d also like to thank all of the volunteers involved in the election campaign.”

When asked his opinion on what is now being considered a disastrous campaign by Peter Dutton and the Liberals Mr Littleproud remained tight lipped.

“The Nationals ran a very professional campaign, and I am proud that” he said.

“The Nationals retained all of our House of Representatives seats at Saturday’s election.

“We must now take the time to reflect on this election campaign and prepare to hold this government to account.”

The Western Star also asked Mr Littleproud if he planned to continue on as leader of the Nationals but received no response.
