Federal election 2025: Latest results for Maranoa
Nuclear energy and a general malaise towards Australia’s major parties and the election in general dominated the vibe at Kingaroy on Saturday morning, where one voter said he had not voted for any of the candidates on offer but had instead given his vote to god.

An exit poll of 61 people at a Kingaroy polling booth on Saturday morning revealed that incumbent Federal Member for Maranoa and National Party leader David Littleproud was the clear front runner, with 24 people indicating they voted number one for the Liberal National Party.
Labor representative Alex Newman started as a strong favourite and came in as the second most popular choice, with 18 votes, close to 30 per cent of the total number of people polled.
Elizabeth Johnstone of the Greens party received seven votes, Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Sharon Duncan received six votes and Jonathan Cumes from Trumpet of Patriots received five votes.
The polling centre at St John’s Lutheran School on Ivy Street in Kingaroy was quiet by late morning, with just a handful of campaigners standing at the gates awaiting voters.
One person said nuclear energy was an issue he cared about and chose to give his vote to the Greens.
One person commented that while he chose to vote for the LNP, he didn’t think it really made a difference and felt like neither of the two major parties did much anyway.
Another man said he never voted for any of the candidates and chose to give his vote to God.
Maranoa is a southern outback seat extending from Warwick, Dalby and Kingaroy in the east, through to the Northern Territory border in the west.
Major centres include Roma, Charleville, Goondiwindi, Cunnamulla, Barcaldine, Winton, Longreach, Thargomindah and Birdsville.
The largest electorate in Queensland, and the fourth largest in the country, Maranoa covers 729,897 sq.km or 42.2% of the state, an area more than three times the size of Victoria.
It has been a safe conservative seat since the 1970s and is was held leading in to the election by the leader of the National Party David Littleproud.
The Division of Maranoa consists of Balonne Shire Council, Barcaldine Regional Council, Barcoo Shire Council, Blackall Tambo Regional Council, Bulloo Shire Council, Diamantina Shire Council, Goondiwindi Regional Council, Longreach Regional Council, Maranoa Regional Council, Murweh Shire Council, Paroo Shire Council, Quilpie Shire Council, Western Downs Regional Council, Winton Shire Council, part of the South Burnett Regional Council, part of the Southern Downs Regional Council and part of the Toowoomba Regional Council.
Its main industries are primary production including coal, oil, gas, orchards, cotton, grain, cattle and sheep.
