Polls have closed across the federal seat of Maranoa as voters look to see who will represent the region in the next parliament.
Nationals leader and potential deputy prime minister David Littleproud has again retained the safe conservative electorate against an extensive field of contenders.
Maranoa, long considered one of the safest in the country, was called less than two hours into counting, making it one of the first LNP confirmed seats in the country.
With only 18.95 per cent of the vote counted, Mr Littleproud led with 50.07 per cent of the first preference vote, followed by Labor candidate Alex Newman with only 16.09 per cent.
In the lead up to election night, Mr Littleproud pledge to get Australia “back on track” with cost of living and nuclear energy promises.
“As Australians go to the polls they simply need to ask themselves one question,” he said.
“Are they better off after three years of Anthony Albanese?
“Are they going to be better off under an Albanese-Bandt coalition or better under a Dutton-Littleproud government?”
Contending the seat were Labor candidate Alex Newman, Trumpet of Patriots’ Jonathan Allen Cumes, One Nation’s Sharon Duncan, John Matthew Whittle of Family First, Libertarian candidate Michael Offerdahl, Greens candidate Elizabeth Johnston and Rod Draper of Gerard Rennick People First.
