YOUR CANDIDATES
Rod Draper, People First
Born and raised to a working class family, Rod’s father was a builder from Woodford timber and his mother was a seamstress from Caboolture.
He was brought up in and around Brisbane growing up in a number of small family businesses including a corner store, and egg grading business and a building company.
Rod has worked in rehab and psychology for the past 10 years helping workers, families, and businesses cope with injury and illness
Mr Draper’s policies include plans to raise the tax-free threshold from $18,200 to $40,000, calls for child care subsidy payments to go directly to parents and plans to make superannuation voluntary.
David Littleproud, LNP
The incumbent David Littleproud is once again running for office in the Maranoa electorate. Leader of the Nationals was elected to the House of Representatives for Maranoa, Queensland, in 2016 and re-elected 2019 and 2022.
Mr Littleproud plans to deal with the cost of living crisis and restore standard of living, provide cheaper and more consistent power by bringing in a mix of nuclear, gas, carbon capture storage, and renewable energy, create better health outcomes and access to GPs in rural and remote communities and increase access to childcare in regional areas.
Elizabeth Johnston, the Greens
First Nations woman and former social worker Elizabeth Johnston is running as the Greens candidate for Maranoa.
She said as part of the Greens she will be campaigning to tackle price gouging and lower grocery costs, ease the pressure of rent and mortgages by capping rent increases and provide cheaper mortgages, work towards making GP visits free and expand Medicare to cover dental and mental health services.
Michael Offerdahl, Libertarian Party
A local business man and advocate for regional communities Michael Offerdahl is running for the Libertarian Party in Maranoa.
Mr Offerdahl’s policies include advocating for increased federal funding for road upgrades, building more dams and ensuring sustainable water management, expanding coal and gas while advocating for nuclear energy and advocating for Aboriginal communities through allocations of funds and land transfers.
John Matthew Whittle Family First

Alex Newman, Australian Labor Party
As a recent TAFE graduate, Alex is passionate about everyone having the opportunity to get the skills for the job they want.

Labor’s number one priority has been delivering cost of living relief with bigger tax cuts for every taxpayer, 20% off student debt, energy bill relief, cheaper childcare, strengthening Medicare, and cheaper medicines.
Alex will fight for more investment in local health services, more skills and training to support local jobs, and getting more housing built so that locals can access affordable and reliable housing.
