For the second time in a matter of weeks, a council works depot has again fallen victim to car thieves - here’s what they stole this time.

Livingstone Shire Council's Yeppoon Works Depot in Cordingley Street has fallen victim to car thieves for the second time in a matter of weeks.

A council works depot at Yeppoon has again been hit by car thieves with the offenders escaping with a ute and a truck.

Livingstone Shire Council confirmed the latest theft from its Cordingley Street depot happened on Monday night.

It is the second time the depot has been targeted by criminals in a matter of weeks - in late November, three council utes were stolen and two of those were later found burnt out.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police had on Tuesday located the two vehicles stolen from the depot on Monday.

“Investigations are ongoing in relation to (that) incident,” she said.

As for the previous theft overnight on November 23/24, the QPS spokeswoman said police had located the third vehicle at Sarina on December 15 and it was not damaged.

Investigations remain ongoing in relation to the November theft.

At the most recent council meeting just before Christmas, Councillor Glenda Mather asked CEO Cale Dendle if there was an update on the November depot theft.

“Because, you know, we seem to be having a bit of theft going on and it does concern me,” Mrs Mather said.

Mr Dendle provided an update on that incident and also revealed some further details.

“There were a number of other vehicles where keys were stolen (overnight November 23/24) so we’ve had to take some steps about securing those for future use, just in case someone might be tempted to come back and have another go,” Mr Dendle said at the December 20 meeting.

“And we’ve obviously had to review the security around the depot because that’s been the second occasion now since August I think, that people have been in our depot unauthorised after hours.

“And as you (Cr Mather) rightly point out, it is an ongoing problem.”

Mrs Mather asked the CEO whether the vehicles were covered by insurance and he replied: “Yes, there’s excess payable on each, but yes, our fleet’s insured.”

Earlier this week, a dramatic dawn police operation unfolded on Rockhampton’s outskirts with a dog squad chasing juveniles into swampland after highway stingers stopped a stolen car.

Later the same day, a stolen car crashed in North Rockhampton and police were hunting three male occupants seen running from the scene.
