A second ute stolen from a council works depot at Yeppoon has been found destroyed by fire.

Police have confirmed that a white Ford Ranger found burnt out at the intersection of Tessellaris Trail and Coolibah Cr, Takilberan, on November 30, was one of three utes stolen from Livingstone Shire Council’s Yeppoon Works Depot overnight on November 23/24.

The first of the stolen council vehicles to meet a firey end was a Mitsubishi Triton found burning on Mulambin Beach, Yeppoon, at 4.30am on November 24.

Just hours earlier, the grounded 15.2m yacht Scoundrel was destroyed by fire in suspicious circumstances on Main Beach, Emu Park.

The third stolen council ute remains unaccounted for.

On Friday, December 2, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said investigations were ongoing in relation to both the Yeppoon Works Depot vehicle thefts and the yacht fire.

No-one has yet been charged in relation to either of the incidents.

No new information could be provided by police in relation to the Scoundrel blaze and its cause remains unknown.

Police initially said there did not appear to be a link between the yacht fire about 1am on November 24 and the vehicle fire on Mulambin Beach a matter of hours later, “however these incidents do still remain ongoing investigations”.

The Scoundrel, which had been grounded on Main Beach, Emu Park, since October 10, burned just days before a Maritime Safety Queensland ordered deadline for its removal and police said it was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The owner of the Scoundrel is not accused of any wrongdoing in relation to the yacht fire, nor in relation to the two council utes destroyed by fire.
