Keen fisherman Cody Smith had only just returned to work when he was tragically killed in an industrial incident at a pineapple farm in Bungundarra on Wednesday morning.

Family and friends have paid tribute on social media to the Yeppoon man, 25, who died when a harvester struck power lines at Lake Mary Pines on Ingrey Road at 9.23am.

It is understood Cody was electrocuted, with six other workmates suffering electric shocks.

According to a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman, when crews arrived on scene and made their way across the paddock to the harvester that had made contact with power lines there was a person still inside.

The spokesman said CPR was performed on the person inside the harvester before they were transported to hospital.

Six other people were taken to hospital in stable conditions.

The tragedy devastated the Capricorn Coast community, with many paying their respects on social media.

Kate N Keith Wiltshire wrote on Facebook that Cody was their “little brother” and had only started back at work two days prior to the incident.

“His wings have come way too early,” they wrote.

“RIP little brother.”

Jon Milliner wrote, “We lost a great mate and a brother to some”.

“RIP legend, you’re already missed mate,” he wrote.

Gina Scoble wrote that Cody “was a good guy”.

“Too young to lose,” she wrote.

Kayla Maltby described Cody as a ‘little brother’ who grew into a ‘lovely young man’.

“You were that little brother who annoyed your sister and friends during our teenage years,” she wrote.

“We watched you grow into a lovely young man so polite always up for a chat, I think a trip to the Hut is on the cards this weekend just for you mate. Fly high.

“Sending my love and support to your beautiful family during this time.”

Ashlie Wiltshire said Cody was ‘one of a kind’.

“Always there for your friends and people that you cared about you’re gonna be missed by so many.”

As the community came to terms with Cody’s death, police guarded the Lake Mary Pines property overnight Wednesday and all day Thursday, with police tape strung across the front gates of the farm.

An Office of Industrial Relations spokeswoman said Workplace Health and Safety Queensland investigators, electrical safety inspectors and Queensland Police Service were continuing their investigation onsite.

A QPS spokesman said on Wednesday that a report was being prepared for the coroner.

Lake Mary Pines has been approached for comment on the incident, but has so far not released a statement.
