They might have been down on numbers, but it didn’t stop The Cathedral College from aiming up in a big way in the Dolphins Cup.

In a physical and gruelling clash at Rockhampton Grammar College, the visitors ran away with a 26-8 win.

The Cathedral College exploded out of the blocks, scoring a try in their opening set of the game after a high bomb took a fortuitous bounce.

The visitors led by 14 points at the break before Rockhampton Grammar launched a minor fightback in the second half.

The home side gave their fans plenty to cheer about in the final minutes as they crashed across for a consolation try after the siren.

The Cathedral College will be down a few troops but are still looking to maintain their good form when they resume their Dolphins Cup campaign on Wednesday.

The Tony Martin-coached team will tackle Rockhampton Grammar at 6pm.

The same schools play in the Dolphins Challenge at 5pm and you can watch both games live on this website.

TCC have won one of their two games to date in the schoolboys rugby league competition.

Martin said his team would be without several players who were injured at the recent Confraternity Carnival, where they finished in fourth place.

“That was a good result for us; the players were really proud of themselves and I was really proud of them,” he said.

The Cathedral College will take on Rockhampton Grammar in the Dolphins Cup at 5pm Wednesday.

“We took a few injuries out of that though so we will be down on numbers tomorrow.

“It’s been a big few months of footy for the boys so we gave them a couple of weeks off to refresh and recharge the batteries before this game.”

Martin said that despite Grammar having yet to win a game, his team knew they would have to come ready to play.

“They’re a good side and they always play for each other,” he said.

“They’ve got very good coaches so they’ll be well organised and come out and work really hard.

“But our preparation for this game and all of this season has been about what we need to do, concentrating on our game and just looking after our own backyard.”
