Rocky Bowl and Leisure sold to iPlay Australia, big plans for upgrades

EXCLUSIVE: The new owner of Rocky Bowl and Leisure has revealed its plans for the iconic entertainment centre. Full details here.

Upgrades to the food and drink offerings, new arcade games, virtual reality and more are just some of the new features set to be rolled out in the coming months at Rockhampton entertainment venue Rocky Bowl and Leisure.

iPlay Australia recently acquired the business from the McKenna brothers who opened it 44 years ago.

The independent family-owned national family entertainment centre company has 20 locations across Australia and has big plans to revamp, improve and expand its new Rockhampton site.

The company told this publication it had plans to bring an upgraded fit-out, food and drink offerings, and upgrade arcade games from racing games, Dance Dance Revolution and more.

Rocky Bowl and Leisure has 22 lanes of bowling and already offers mini golf, bumper cars and laser tag.

“Rocky Bowl is a landmark destination in Rockhampton and has been for many years,” said iPlay Australia managing director and founder John Sophios.

“We plan to build on that and improve the overall experience with the latest games and attractions.

“One thing we do not want to do is remove any feeling of community and the localness of the venue – we will continue to run all the bowling leagues and competitions to continue to instil that feeling of togetherness in the Rockhampton region.”

The number one upgrade is the removal of the counter for the redemption store, so customers will be able to walk into the area and “touch and feel” the items that they want to redeem with their tickets accrued at the arcade.
