Residents of Parkhurst and Rockhampton’s northern suburbs will be able to shave 11 minutes off their commute to get their hands on a Zinger burger or bucket of fried chicken.

It was announced on Friday (March 11) that the Colonel, the iconic face of KFC, would be coming to Parkhurst Town Centre.

The shopping centre, owned by AHC Limited, was opened in late 2016.

Plans were revealed for a fast food drive-through in 2018 and it has been speculated for years what would go there and when.

The next closest KFC to Parkhurst is at Stockland, a 6.2km drive from the centre according to Google Maps.

The Parkhurst KFC would be the fourth store for Rockhampton, with another store in Yeppoon.

Hutchinsons Builders will start construction in early May.

The store, which features a dual drive-through, will be located opposite the service station and fronting Yaamba Road (Bruce Highway).

It is expected to be open by Christmas 2022.

An application for two drive-thrus, to potentially house Guzman y Gomez and Banjo’s bakery cafe, has been proposed for the former Project Mex site on Fitzroy and George streets in South Rockhampton.

A new sushi restaurant, ETUP, will open in April at City Centre Plaza.

Ichi Maki has closed temporarily for the renovations.
