To ban or not to ban?

Removing vehicles from arguably the most popular four-wheel-drive beach at the Capricorn Coast would eliminate safety concerns.

But is such a drastic step the way to go?

Some Morning Bulletin readers think so. And you can cast your vote in our Readers Poll at the bottom of this story.

“No driving on the beach,” Bob List said after The Bully last week reported that a new group had been formed to try and find a solution to safety concerns on the beach at Farnborough/Bangalee.

Other readers proposed different courses of action.

“Only AUs allowed on the beach every other vehicle stays off it,” John McAulay Powell wrote on Facebook.

Steven Kwin said a designated area should be set up for young people to drive on the beach.

“Allow a area down the end of the beach out of the way for the young people to have a bit of fun then police the rest of the beach,” Steven wrote.

Adam Brumby Reynolds said different steps were needed.

“Trail cameras along the beach and whack up speed sign. A few of us can only drum it into people for so long since most of the time it falls on deaf ears. Maybe if they get caught speeding or doing stuff on the beach (they’re) not (supposed) to be doing and get a big fine they might think twice about being idiots,” Adam wrote.

Steve Pattel was another reader who thought heavier fines would work.

“Double demerit points & double the fines on all beaches, Make it permanent,” he wrote on Facebook.

Troy Mchugh said provisional licence holders should be banned from driving on the beach.

“No P platers allowed,” he wrote.

That comment led to Nick Cahill responding: “it’s not just p platers hey.”

What do you think? Should all vehicles be banned from driving on the beach at Farnborough/Bangalee?
