Wade Allan Probert cops two-year driving disqualification after Dawson Highway car crash

A Central Queensland labourer who crashed a car the day after his driver’s licence was suspended for drug-driving, has paid a heavy price for his mistake.

A Central Queensland labourer has been hit with a $1000 fine and two-year driving disqualification after a car crash where he was hospitalised.

Wade Allan Probert, 30, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on September 1 to unlicensed driving.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said on June 12 about 3.40pm, police were called to a traffic crash on the Dawson Highway in the Biloela region.

Sgt Ongheen said when police arrived at the scene, they saw the Toyota sedan that Probert had been driving, up an embankment.

Paramedics on scene told police that Probert was in the back of the ambulance and he was subsequently taken to Biloela Hospital.

Sgt Ongheen said at the time of the crash, Probert was unlicensed.

“It was established that due to another matter, (Probert) was issued a notice of suspension or disqualification on the 11th of June, 2022,” Sgt Ongheen said.

“This suspension was in force until the 18th of August, 2022.”

It was on August 18 in Yeppoon Magistrates Court that Probert pleaded guilty to two counts of drug-driving.

On September 1, the court heard that Probert faced a minimum mandatory driving disqualification of two years.

Solicitor Krissy Cummins said Probert was a full-time installer for Solahart Industries and his offending had been “a wake-up call”.

Acting Magistrate Ron Muirhead issued a $1000 fine and disqualified Probert from driving for two years, which will be served on top of his recent disqualification period handed down in court on August 18.
