Wade Allan Probert pleads guilty to drug-driving offences

A hit of ice for his birthday wasn’t the only thing a Central Queensland labourer did wrong and he’s been given a frank warning by a magistrate.

A Central Queensland labourer has been told that he will “end up in jail” if he doesn’t get on top of his drug problem.

Wade Allan Probert, 30, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on August 18 to two counts of drug-driving.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Darrell Dalton said Probert first got caught drug-driving on the Dawson Highway on March 13 while on a probationary licence.

Probert had both methamphetamines and cannabis in his system.

Sgt Dalton said Probert told police that he had used ice at his birthday party a few days prior.

“He also admitted to smoking cannabis on the morning he was intercepted,” Sgt Dalton said.

Probert then got caught drug-driving again on June 11, on Yeppoon’s Arthur Street, with both meth and cannabis in his system.

The court heard that Probert had two drug-driving offences on his history in 2020.

A solicitor said Probert was a single man who worked for Solahart Industries, and he recognised he had a drug issue.

Before handing down penalty, Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale had some clear advice for Probert.

“You are going to end up in jail if you keep committing these offences,” Ms Beckinsale said.

Ms Beckinsale placed Probert on 18 months’ probation and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
