A Central Queensland mum has been sentenced after police seized 39 bags of drugs from her home during a raid.
Ebony Louise Muriel Williams, 32, pleaded guilty in the District Court at Gladstone on Thursday to possessing dangerous drugs over 500g, possessing money suspected of being proceeds of a drug crime, and possessing drug items and property used in a drug crime.
The court heard that on June 8 last year, police executed a search warrant at Williams’ Clinton home.
They found 39 plastic bags containing a total of 647g of cannabis, $1900 cash, 11 bongs, two grinders and two sets of scales.
The court heard Williams suffered from Crohn’s disease and she told police she smoked cannabis for pain relief.
When police asked Williams about the $1900 cash, she told them it was money she received from selling cannabis “to people who needed it to help them manage their pain.”
Williams further told police she only supplied to a couple of people, the court heard.
The Crown said Williams had a “somewhat limited” criminal history.
Judge Amanda McDonnell said drugs were “a significant problem” in society and possessing an amount over 500g was “a serious offence.”
A barrister said Williams, a mother, had experienced a “dysfunctional, traumatic and very unfortunate” childhood.
The barrister said Williams had fully co-operated with police during the search warrant and made “full and frank admissions” during interview.
He said Williams would benefit from a lengthier period of supervision.
“She has had a terrible start to life - she needs support, guidance and assistance,” the barrister said.
“She is willing to fully engage with Community Corrections in the services they will provide to get her life back on track.
“She’s still only 32 years of age, and she wants to be a mother.”
Judge McDonnell sentenced Williams to six months’ jail, wholly suspended for 12 months.
She also placed Williams on 12 months’ probation with conditions and convictions were recorded.
