A Central Queensland mine worker’s shocking domestic violence offences against his wife, have been detailed in court.

The 35-year-old man pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on August 18 to two counts of contravening a domestic violence order and one count of wilfully and unlawfully destroying a mobile phone.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Darrell Dalton said on June 24, the female aggrieved went to a police station and provided police with messages sent to her by the man the previous day.

Sgt Dalton said there were three messages, one of them which read: “I know 100 that (man’s name) went down on you, you sl--.”

The court heard the man admitted to police that he sent the messages.

Then on July 17, the man’s offending escalated.

Sgt Dalton said the man attended the woman’s residence after being invited.

He then became angry and called the woman a “sl--.”

“He’s asked the (young) child to go and get the (woman’s) phone so that he could go through it to see who the (woman) was talking to,” Sgt Dalton said.

The prosecutor said the man called the woman “a whore” and an argument followed.

Sgt Dalton said the man pushed the woman onto a bed, “assaulting her in the jaw while holding her down”.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale then asked for clarification on that, and it was conceded by the prosecution that the man pushed the woman “on the bed by the jaw”.

Sgt Dalton said during the incident, a young child jumped onto the man’s back while he was holding the woman.

“The child was yelling and screaming to separate (them),” Sgt Dalton said.

Sgt Dalton said the man then “threw the child off his back” and the child landed on a table in the bedroom and started screaming and crying.

The woman wanted to call police but the man grabbed her phone and smashed it on the floor, destroying it.

A solicitor said the man worked in the mining industry and he was on a mental health plan through his GP.

The solicitor said the man regretted the domestic violence incidents with his wife.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale fined the man $1000 and ordered he pay $1000 restitution for destroying the phone.

No conviction was recorded.
