A man is in custody after allegedly punching another man in the head multiple times, knocking out several of his teeth, following an argument at a shopping centre in Gladstone on Saturday.

According to police, a 64-year-old Clinton man had a verbal argument with a 43-year-old Toolooa man regarding his manner of driving in a car park on the corner of Dawson Highway and Phillip Street, before the Clinton man walked into the shopping centre.

The Clinton man was standing at a shop counter about 8.50am when the other man approached him from behind and allegedly struck him to the side of the head several times.

The pair fell to the ground and the Toolooa man allegedly pinned the man to the ground and continued punching him in the head.

The Clinton man was transported to Gladstone Hospital with facial injuries, including the loss of several teeth.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said he was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

The Toolooa man was charged with one count of grievous bodily harm and was being held in custody to appear in Gladstone Magistrates Court on April 26.
