A council labourer would lose his job as a result of drug offences, a Central Queensland court has heard.
Scott Anthony Kenny, 53, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on October 26 to possessing cannabis and drug-driving.
The court heard police caught Kenny driving on the Leichhardt Highway on September 2 with cannabis in his system.
Police Prosecutor Carl Spargo said Kenny was also found in possession of 0.47g of cannabis.
The court was told Kenny had no drug-driving offences on his traffic history in the past five years.
Solicitor Richard Parks said Kenny was a labourer with Banana Shire Council and he tendered two references to the court for him.
“It’s a very unfortunate situation he’s going to find himself in, Your Honour,” Mr Parks told Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale, adding that Kenny had worked for Banana Shire Council for three-and-a-half years.
“He’s going to lose his job because his actions were against the conduct provisions of employment with the council.”
Mr Parks said when police caught Kenny, he was driving a council vehicle.
The solicitor said Kenny lived with his 74-year-old mother whom he cared for.
Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale placed Kenny on a six-month good behaviour order with a $500 recognisance.
She also fined him $350 and disqualified him from driving for one month.
No conviction was recorded.
