A Central Queensland mine worker busted with cocaine at a popular tourist spot was there for a buck’s party.

Blake William Denniss, 36, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on October 26 to possessing cocaine and a drug utensil.

Police prosecutor Carl Spargo said on August 5, police escorted Denniss from a hotel at Maroochydore.

Mr Spargo said Denniss was found with 1.5g of cocaine and a drug utensil, and he told police that he was a tourist visiting for a buck’s party.

The court heard that Denniss had no previous drug matters on his history.

Solicitor Richard Parks said Denniss was a father of three who lived in Biloela and worked as a boilermaker at the mines in Central Queensland.

Mr Parks said Denniss had worked at the mines for 15 years and this offending was “totally out of character” for him.

“He is remorseful,” Mr Parks said.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale placed Denniss on a six-month good behaviour order with a $700 recognisance.

No conviction was recorded.
