The evidence against a man who allegedly tried to stab his wife to death has been discussed in court.

Police will allege Geoffrey Ernest White, 52, had been drinking the afternoon before he allegedly repeatedly stabbed his wife, Amy White, 38, on September 3, 2023.

Defence lawyer Samantha Legrady told the Rockhampton Magistrates Court barrister Julie Marsden was still reading her way through the medical documents in the brief of evidence before deciding the next step in the case.

Emergency services were called to the Constantia Crescent, Frenchville, home just after 7pm the evening of the alleged stabbing.

Police will allege Ms White sustained cuts to her upper chest and neck but was able to call triple-zero herself before she was rushed to Rockhampton Hospital in a critical condition and underwent “lifesaving surgery”.

Mr White was charged the following morning with attempted murder and is in custody at Maryborough Correctional Centre.

The couple were married in 2013 and shared two young children together.

Ms Legrady said Mr White was not at risk of spending too much time in custody.

No pleas have been entered.

Mr White’s charges will be next mentioned on July 17, and he has been remanded in custody.
