A 19-year-old man, who has racked up more than 20 charges in the Past six months and was previously granted bail in court, was back before the magistrates just one week later possessing marijuana.

Richard Jaydon Keegan Leahy appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on April 6, where he applied for bail on two fresh charges, which included possessing dangerous drugs.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Sarah Rowe applied to have Mr Leahy’s bail revoked.

Ms Rowe said Mr Leahy was only before the court a week earlier.

She said Mr Leahy had at least 30 offences outstanding, 21 of them having occurred since October 2022.

According to court records, Mr Leahy has 23 charges listed to be mentioned on April 19 and three to be mentioned on April 28.

“It’s continued behaviour and a blatant disregard of the bail he was given last week,” Ms Rowe said.

“He is not changing his behaviour.”

During his bail application, defence lawyer Ashley Reynolds said her client had obtained a job on a trawler which would travel to Cairns from Yeppoon on April 11 or 12.

“He says it will be six weeks out at sea,” Ms Reynolds said.

The court heard Mr Leahy got the job through a friend and did not have contact details for his employer or the name of the boat.

Ms Rowe argued there was no evidence to support the job.

She said even if he did have those details regarding the job he had made no inquiries to vary his bail.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale granted Mr Leahy bail with conditions, including that he must notify police of the name of his employer, their contact details and name of the vessel, and that he must report every weekday until he left shore and within 24 hours of returning to shore.

“If you stuff up again you are unlikely to get this chance again,” Ms Beckinsale said.

Mr Leahy’s matters were adjourned to April 19.
