After a delay with forensic matters, a court in Rockhampton has heard progress has been made in the case of Depot Hill murder accused Arthur James Spencer.

In 2019, then 26-year-old Mr Spencer was charged with one count of murder after his housemate, Edward Bashford, 56, was found seriously injured in a room he rented on Campbell Street, Depot Hill, on April 16.

In the Supreme Court at Rockhampton on Monday, November 8, 2021, Crown Prosecutor Joshua Phillips told Justice Graeme Crow that after a delay because of matters involving a forensic pathologist, there had been progress in relation to that.

“But not enough to answer the submission just yet,” Mr Phillips said.

“Although I’m hopeful within the next week or two, that would have occurred.”

Following Mr Bashford’s death, an autopsy revealed he suffered several facial fractures, rib fractures, and a bleed on the brain.

On Monday, Justice Crow adjourned Mr Spencer’s matter to November 25 and he was remanded in custody.
