Police seize $3.75m worth of meth

A man who filmed himself supplying drugs to other people was detected as police targeted another drug user.

Peter John Anderson, 35, pleaded guilty on March 18 in Rockhampton District Court to six counts of supplying a dangerous drug, two of possessing dangerous drugs, two of possessing property suspected used in a drug offence and two of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

Crown prosecutor Maryam Yousufzai told the court Anderson had supplied the police intended target twice which was how they picked up some of Anderson’s offending.

She said of the six supplies, three were captured on videos found on Anderson’s phone.

Ms Yousufzai said the first supply was for 0.3g of methamphetamines while the second was an agreement to supply.

She said the third and fourth were when he shared a meth pipe with two women and supplied one of them with 0.5g meth.

Ms Yousufzai said Anderson then shared a pipe with another person which was the facts for the sixth supply charge.

She said Anderson could be heard on the videos saying to one of the women “wait until you snort that much coke that you get a deviated septum”.

Ms Yousufzai said he also provided advice about utensils for smoking marijuana.

The supplies to five people took place between December 3. 2020, and January 23, 2021.

Police executed a search warrant at Anderson’s residence on February 2, 2021, locating 1.73g of meth in 2.38g of substance, along with four grams of marijuana, clip-seal bags, electric grinder, straws, two pipes and a small electronic scale.

The court heard Anderson had since rehabilitated himself and had lots of supportive people around him.

Defence barrister Jordan Ahlstrand said his client started using drugs about 10 years ago, starting with MDMA.

He said Anderson had been in a seven-year relationship prior to the offending and his drug use progressed to meth after the collapse of that relationship.

Mr Ahlstrand said his client was using 0.3g meth per day at the time of his arrest.

A drug test result from November and a letter from Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs Services was provided to the court as evidence of Anderson’s rehabilitation efforts.

Mr Ahlstrand said Anderson shared custody of his two children from that relationship, one week on, one week off.

He said his client was now engaged to his current partner and they were saving to buy a house.

He said Anderson, who had worked at Freddy’s Fishing and Outdoor store in Norman Gardens until it closed, now works at business on Gladstone Road.

Mr Ahlstrand said his client was diagnosed with depression and anxiety and was compliant with his medication.

He said Anderson had been raised by his maternal grandparents and never knew who his father was.

Anderson was sentenced to 12 months prison, wholly suspended and operational for two years.
