A drug addict involved in a knifepoint carjacking, where the victim was interrogated about their bikie associations, was also clocked doing 203km/hr during a police pursuit.

Guy James Weldon, 28, pleaded guilty on December 19 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to 36 charges including for a serious assault of a police officer by attempting to bite them and serious assault with intent to commit indictable offences.

Weldon’s charges also included unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, evading police, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, stealing, trespass, possessing knives in public places, attempted fraud, public nuisance, obstructing police, possessing suspected stolen property, taxi fare evasion, failing to dispose of needles safely and engaging in high-risk activities.

Police prosecutor Courtney Brown said Weldon was on suspended sentences at the time of most of these offences.

She said the co-offender held a 10cm bladed knife to a woman’s throat in the car-jacking incident “and she was told to do what the party said or she would get stabbed”.

“The defendant interrogated the victim about her association with bikies,” Ms Brown said.

“She replied she didn’t know what they were talking about.

“The victim was uncontrollably shaking and scared that she was going to get stabbed or hurt.”

Ms Brown said Weldon grabbed the keys from the ignition and told the victim to shut up and get out.

She said the victim got out of the car and fought the two offenders who tried to get her into the back seat.

After she escaped, the offenders drove off in her car.

Defence lawyer Pierre Lammersdorf said Weldon’s mother was an abusive alcoholic, his sister died by suicide and his father died after being bashed.

He said Weldon first started drinking alcohol at 11 years old, then smoking marijuana at 12 and methamphetamines after his sister’s suicide.

Mr Lammersdorf said Weldon was drunk and high at the time of this offending, but had been trying to address substance abuse problems.

“He simply does not want to continue down this destructive path,” he said.

The court heard Weldon had an 11-page criminal record including convictions for robberies and violence, dangerous operation of motor vehicles while on drugs and discharging firearms.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert sentenced Weldon to 2.5 years prison, declared 271 days presentence custody and set parole release for January 23, 2023.

She also disqualified him from driving for eight years and activated his four suspended sentences, ordering they be served concurrently with his 2.5 year term.
