A Central Queensland father was caught with drugs, a weapon and ammunition during a police raid at a Yeppoon property.

Maxwell Arthur Driver, 30, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on August 4 to unlawful possession of a weapon, supplying a weapon, producing and possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils, and possessing ammunition.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Darrell Dalton said on February 11, police executed a search warrant at a residence.

Sgt Dalton said during that search, police seized a taser and they found messages on Driver’s phone which included an offer to supply another person with a taser.

“During that search, police located one cannabis plant growing in a pot in the backyard,” Sgt Dalton said.

The plant weighed 351g.

Sgt Dalton said police also found a clip-seal bag which contained five cannabis seeds, an electric grinder, a set of digital scales, and five rounds of ammunition.

The court heard Driver had a criminal history with the last entry being for drug offending in 2018 when he was fined.

Solicitor Ashley Reynolds said Driver was a father of three who had previously worked as a truck driver and machinery operator.

“But he had an accident in 2017... and had been unable to return to work,” Ms Reynolds said.

“He has however, been able to obtain casual employment as an operator...”

Ms Reynolds said about six months ago, Driver quit cannabis “cold turkey”.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale placed Driver on 12 months’ probation and convictions were recorded.
