A 19-year-old parolee punched a Rockhampton bottle shop attendant in the head, causing her nose to bleed, after the worker struggled with a juvenile who was trying to make off with some alcohol.
Esther Theresa Fisher was with two juveniles in a bottle shop in Berserker at night on January 9, 2023.
The District Court in Rockhampton heard the 36-year-old bottle shop attendant got into a scuffle when one of the juveniles allegedly tried to take alcohol.
Crown prosecutor Kathryn Walker said the worker let go of the juvenile, who left, and then Fisher approached her and assaulted her.
Ms Walker said the victim suffered bruising and bloody nose.
The court heard Fisher, who had a four-page criminal record, had been held on remand since January 13 and was on parole at the time of committing the offence after being sentenced to 21 months prison in the district court on November 28, 2022 for various charges, including a bottle shop robbery.
Defence barrister Jordan Ahlstrand said his client’s father had died six years ago and that she was grieving.
Mr Ahlstrand said his client had also led a transient lifestyle and had inadequate supervision.
He said she started smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol at 15 years old, had found herself binge drinking on occasions in the past and chromed for a period of time.
Fisher pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.
Judge Jeff Clarke sentenced her to nine months prison with immediate parole eligibility.
