Emergency services are racing to a large bushfire near Kunwarara

A large fire originating in Shoalwater Bay Training Area has spread to the edge of the Bruce Highway and is creating a major smoke hazard for drivers.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said traffic control crews have been requested to attend the incident.

According to initial reports, large amounts of black smoke are billowing onto the highway and the fire has jumped the road.
It is believed that no people or buildings are under threat from the fire.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said one crew is on scene, with four more on the way.
