Police have declared a crime scene after a Rockhampton home was blackened in an overnight fire with police and fire investigations underway.
Crews arrived to the Bolsover St address to find the house “well involved” in flames at 12.40am on Monday morning.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed the house was vacant at the time, paramedics were on standby but did not take any injured persons.
The fire tore through the house, devastating the street facing side and leaving parts of the roof in tatters.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman confirmed neighbouring houses were evacuated and the blaze was contained by 1.15am.
It wasn’t the region’s only fire over the long weekend — firefighters were called to a bridge on Marlborough Rd at 6.40am.
Two crews arrived and found part of the bridge smouldering, and existinguised it.
