A heavy drug user, who was using a half ball of methamphetamine a day, started trafficking the drug in Gladstone in early 2021 to pay off a debt.

Dylan Robert Andrew Bromilow, 25, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court at Rockhampton on July 25 to three counts of supplying dangerous drugs, and one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing a thing used in connection with supplying a dangerous drug and possessing utensils or pipes that had been used.

Crown prosecutor Tiffany Lawrence said Bromilow trafficked methamphetamine, allegedly with another person, to pay off his own drug debt for four months between January 11 and May 10, 2021, in Gladstone.

Ms Lawrence said the drug supplies were at a street level, ranging from points to balls of meth.

“The defendant was involved in arranging supplies, carrying out the supplies, collecting the drugs,” she said.

Ms Lawrence said there was discussion of the supply of at least 81.25g of meth, as well as discussion of $15,350 in sales.

“The defendant said he had ‘sales coming out his ar--’,” she said.

Later in July and August 2021, Bromilow supplied or offered to supply small quantities of meth on three separate occasions.

Police executed a search warrant at Bromilow ‘s house on August 5, 2021, and found a mobile phone he had used to arrange the later drug supplies, as well as numerous clip-seal bags, digital scales, calibration weights, a used glass pipe and a clip-seal bag containing a clear crystal substance that was later identified as pool salt.

Ms Lawrence said Bromilow was on parole when he committed the latter drug offences.

Defence barrister Julie Marsden said her client was a heavy drug user at the time of the offending and that he engaged in drug trafficking to pay his drug debts.

Ms Marsden said her client did not gain any benefit or lavish lifestyle from the drug trafficking.

“He was doing it to fund his own habit,” she said.

“He was trafficking at street levels for a relatively short period of time.

“He has now spent 354 days in custody and there has been some significant reflection during that time.”

Ms Marsden said her client started smoking marijuana at 16 years old and that his drug use escalated to the point where he was a regular user of meth, and at the time of the offending was using about a half ball of ice a day.

“That was the accumulation of the debts,” she said.

Ms Marsden said her client had completed a number of courses while in custody, including a Drug ARM course.

Chief Justice Helen Bowskill sentenced Bromilow to 4.5 years’ prison, 354 days pre-sentence custody was declared, and parole eligibility set for December 4, 2022.
