A man has made a bid for freedom in court while denying allegations of violence against his partner, who claims he assaulted her with a soundbar, torch and his fists.

Dawson John Row Row, 43, applied for bail in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on October 5.

Mr Row Row was charged with four counts of common assault, three counts of wilful damage and one count of assaults occasioning bodily harm - all were allegedly domestic violence offences.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox opposed bail being granted to Mr Row Row.

Magistrate Cameron Press read the facts of the charges to the court, which stated Mr Row Row allegedly assaulted the alleged victim on October 1.

The court heard Mr Row Row picked up a soundbar and allegedly struck the alleged victim with it, hitting her in the back and in the side of the ribs.

It was also alleged Mr Row Row threw a candle holder, missing the alleged victim.

The alleged victim fled upstairs of the residence and Mr Row Row caught up with her and allegedly threw her to the ground, climbed on top of her and began striking her in the head with a torch and his fist.

The alleged victim managed to push the torch out of Mr Row Row’s hand and he allegedly continued to punch her in the head, causing bruises to her temple.

The alleged victim went downstairs and Mr Row Row allegedly picked up an uncapped syringe and pointed it at her and told her to take off her clothes, which she refused to do.

She pushed Mr Row Row out the front door and locked it.

Mr Fox said there were “significant” allegations of physical violence and domestic violence.

He said the alleged victim and witnesses were reluctant to provide statements to police.

“One witness stated, ‘What’s the point, they just keep getting back together’,” he said.

Defence lawyer Brandon Selic his client was in a relationship with the alleged victim and denied the allegations of violence.

“My instructions are that the allegations come from a fit of jealousy,” Mr Selic said.

“That will need to be investigated further.”

He said any risks his client posed could be mitigated through reporting conditions and by having no contact with the alleged victim.

Mr Press refused to grant Mr Row Row bail, stating that he had no confidence that any bail conditions would adequately manage the risk he posed to the alleged victim and committing further offences.

Mr Row Row was remanded in custody and his matters were adjourned to December 7.

Briefs of evidence were ordered on all charges.
